How to Transfer Adobe Acrobat to a New Computer

Transfer Google Chrome From One Computer To Another

If you use the Adobe Acrobat family of software, you might encounter a problem at some point – how to migrate Adobe Acrobat to a new computer.

Good news – you’re in the right place and we’ll show you exactly how to do this, and more. After you finish reading this step-by-step guide, you’ll be able to transfer all of your Adobe Acrobat apps. They include Acrobat Reader, Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Distiller, Acrobat Standard, and Fill & Sign.

You’ll also be able to migrate every PDF file, form, and other documents you viewed or created using Adobe apps.

These methods also work for transferring libraries, user settings, toolbars, file-based preferences for forms and collaboration, custom stamps and signatures, color settings, custom headers, digital identities, security policies, batch scripts, and trusted certificates.

There are two ways to migrate Adobe Acrobat and all the related files to a new computer. The first includes moving everything you need manually but takes a lot of time, patience, and effort. Luckily, there’s also a more convenient option – to transfer Adobe Acrobat automatically to another device using transfer software.

We will cover both in this guide, although if you prefer to just skip to the easier, automatic option, you can click here for automatic transfer of Adobe Acrobat from one computer to another.

Manual transfer of Acrobat to a new computer

In this section, you’ll learn the steps included in the manual transfer of Adobe Acrobat to another computer. If you’d rather just move on to the instructions for the easier and faster automatic transfer,  click here.

If you still insist on manually transferring your Adobe Acrobat software from one computer to another, here’s how to do it:

  • Get an external hard drive or cloud storage with enough space for everything you plan to move.
  • Plug in the external drive or open the cloud storage on your first device.
  • Copy all of your Adobe Acrobat files and documents to the drive or storage.
    • Memorize which files were in which folders on your first computer so you can copy them to their proper places on the second one. Otherwise, you may encounter errors or missing files.
    • Some files and folders may be hidden, so make sure to change this in your devices’ settings.
    • Depending on the amount of these files and documents, the copying process might take a while, so arm yourself with patience.
  • Install Adobe Acrobat on your second computer and enter your serial number when prompted. You can find your Adobe Acrobat serial number online by accessing your Adobe ID account, signing in with your Adobe credentials, and retrieving it from there.
    • If you don’t have the original installation file or disk, you can download and install a free trial from the Adobe official website. You’ll then need to activate your subscription by launching the app, go to Help > Sign in and enter your Adobe ID and password.
  • Plug in the external drive or open the cloud storage on your second device.
  • Copy all of your Adobe Acrobat files from the drive or storage to your new computer.
    • Again, copy these files to their proper Adobe Acrobat folders that were created with the installation of the program on the second computer.
    • This will probably take some time, depending on how many files you need to migrate.
  • Run Adobe Acrobat on your second computer and keep using it for some time to ensure every file is in its right place and everything is working the way it should.
  • You can keep the files on your first machine as a backup (which is a good practice if your new installation fails and you have to restart the process), uninstall Adobe Acrobat on it, or just deactivate it.
    • To deactivate it, open your Adobe Acrobat app, go to Help > Sign Out or Help > Deactivate (depending on the version).
    • You can also deactivate the device from your Account Page on Adobe.com.

Your Adobe Acrobat should now be finally ready – if you did all the steps from above exactly as described and have encountered no errors. If that wasn’t the case, you’ll have to start the process all over again.

The manual Adobe Acrobat migration method certainly has an advantage – it’s completely free. However, it’s complicated, takes a considerable amount of time, and leaves no room for mistakes. On top of that, not everyone has an external drive with enough space at hand, nor suitable cloud storage.

Fortunately for you, there’s a quicker and more efficient way to transfer Adobe Acrobat and all the related files: automatically.

How to transfer Adobe Acrobat to a New Computer – Automatically

A much easier and quicker approach to moving Adobe Acrobat is through automatic transfer using dedicated software called Zinstall WinWin.

Unlike the manual method, it won’t require several hours of your time, purchasing external storage, or exercising any exceptional focus and dedication to the task. On the contrary, it’s pretty straightforward. You only need to

  1. Download and run Zinstall WinWin on your current computer (the one you are transferring Acrobat from).
Note: You can get Zinstall WinWin here.
  2. Download and run Zinstall WinWin on the new computer
    1. You don’t need to do any configurations for the computers to connect – it’s automatic
    2. If the computers are already connect to same router, same Internet connection, or same wireless connection, you don’t need anything else
    3. If the computers are not connected at all, connect them with a network / Ethernet cable
  3. If you’d like to select which applications and files you want to transfer, press the Advanced menu. If you just want to transfer everything, you don’t need to go to the Advanced menu.
  4. Press “Go” on the new computer to start the transfer

You’re all done! Now all of your software and files are on your second computer without you breaking a sweat so you’re free to continue where you left off and focus on your job.

This procedure has not only automatically moved your Adobe Acrobat software between the computers but also anything else you need. You no longer need to worry about whether you moved all your plugins, PDFs, FDFs, AIs, PDXs, or any other documents you’ve been working on to the right place. Zinstall WinWin has moved them all where they need to be.

This is also a handy way to migrate anything else from your computer to another. And by ‘anything’, we really mean anything – any other app, all the settings, profiles, documents, plugins, registry entries… You name it, Zinstall will transfer it, and virtually duplicate your entire PC when you need it.

The best part about this platform is that it works across all modern Windows machines, including Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Vista, and even XP.
